Subject: transparency bill 132
Dear Mayor Kenoi,
I am writing to urge you to support the passage and implementation of bill 132 that will soon be before the County
Council. I have heard that you oppose this bill due to the fact that it would impose some extra steps before any
land transaction on the part of the county government could be finalized. I believe that the people of Hawaii Island
have a right, and a duty, to know what is going on with their lands. This is so whether the land in question is being
sold, leased, traded or given away. Any extra steps in the process of dealing with public lands are more than
justified if the purpose is to create an informed and aware public.
You and the County Councilors, as well as our state and federal representatives often hold 'talk story' meetings
with the avowed intent to get the public's feedback on various issues. How can the public present any valid
opinions if we are not allowed to be kept informed of said issues?
County lands are our lands. You and the other elected 'representatives' work for us. Your actions should be in
accord with the desires of the electorate. You must keep us informed of what you are doing on our behalf.
