Land held by the County belongs to the PUBLIC, and the PUBLIC has the right to understand in detail how and why its assets are being disposed of. Yes, there is a tremendous amount of distrust of you, the members of the County Council. Perhaps you do not individually deserve such distrust, but your predecessors have consistently played fast and loose with public assets, and it is time to correct the problems that have been created by lax laws and dishonest politicians. Mayor Kenoi may have some valid reasons to threaten to veto the bill if passed that simply were not mentioned in the article that appeared in today's West Hawaii Today. I hope so, because pointing to the existence of laws and procedures that have failed to prevent serious misuse of public assets in the past as a reason to veto this bill if it passes makes the Mayor look like one of the good old boys that created the problem in the first place!
