Gremp, R Dear Chairman and esteemed Council Members: ABR, GRI Vice President I come before you in my capacity as President of the Hawaii Island Board of REALTORS. I represent Julie Hugo, R an organization that is comprised of over 710 active members. Our Mission Statement states that through ABR, CRS collective action, we will advocate and preserve the fundamental right to own, transfer and use real property and to promote the enjoyment of these rights by more people. Secretary Mealoha Kraus, R(S) My presence here is to express our concern about Bill 132. As written, it gives the County Council new 'treasurer powers to pick and choose the buyers for any sale of more than ten (10) acres Of county-owned lands. As Patricia Kiernan, R part of their jurisdiction, the County Council would be given the right to reject the sale if the council Immediate Past President doesn't like a Buyer's intended use for the land. This gives the appearance that a Buyer would have to Burt Weiss, R qualify, not only in terms of price, but also in terms of intended use of the lands. In an'economic climate where the county is in need of funds, and a limited pool of buyers, why would the county want to add Directors Scott A. Bell, R(S) ABR additional hoops to the process? Waitana Herbst, R(S) ABR, GRI The lands in question has State Land Use Agricultural designation as well as County agricultural zoning, C.J. Kimberly, R, GRI to limit the potential future use of the property. If a Buyer's intent for the property goes beyond this, then Tracy Lewis, R an application can be submitted for approval by the County Council. We are not asking the County to Denise NakanRI R, ABR, CRS, GRI make the process easier for Purchasers of the land, we are only advocating that the County Council act Kevin Lewis, R, ABR reasonably on behalf of the residents of Hawaii County. These lands have remained unused for the past 15 Ted Stubbs, R years and if placed in the hands of private parties, we could see the possibility of renewed resources in Executive Officer terms of agricultural use. Jackie Parkinson Executive Assistant We ask that in the best interest of Hawaii County, Bill 132 should not be passed as it is written.
