This resolution is not simply a reactionary measure in response to recent events; it is an important step to helping secure the safety and rights of citizens of Hawaii. Resolution 237-09 makes the important statement that we the people will not blindly conform to government policies if we the people find such policies to be unsafe or unjust. Many measures have been taken by the federal government to circumvent or suspend the constitutional rights of citizens under the guise of "national security" through a series of acts and "executive orders". If a declared emergency is enough to revoke or suspend not only our constitutional, but basic human rights, then we should expect to see an increase in emergency crisis everywhere. At the present, under the declared national health emergency, Kathleen Sebelius, under the Federal Food and Cosmetic Safety Act, has the legal right to "use unapproved medicines and biological products" in "unapproved" methods. This is too much power for a single person to have over our health, especially an unelected official. That is why this resolution can send an important message that here in Hawaii County, there are people who ARE paying attention; there are people who will speak up and stand up for their rights. Please be among those who will! Mahalo, E. Tyson Black Kea'au Comm. NOS S. a.7 Ref. To. P/ c a4 r-a Ref. Dote NOU i 8.2nna 11/17/2009
