Dear Chair Yoshimoto:
Thank you for forwarding me a copy of Resolution 254-09, "A Resolution Regarding
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" (ARRA). I would like to provide some
additional information that the Hawaii County Council may find useful.
To date, recipients in Hawaii have been awarded over $1.4 billion in ARRA funds. Over
$940 million of this amount has been awarded to State agencies and over $296 million has
already been expended.
County Council Resolution 254-09 gives the impression that Hawaii is not actively
seeking ARRA funds. In fact, we are actively drawing down ARRA funds and are competing for
additional federal dollars in many areas. such as broad band technologies, health information
systems, and Race to the Top education dollars.
I hope the Council will take steps to correct the information in Resolution
254-09.
