HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 291 Draft 01 2008-2010 COUNTY OF HAWAI'I STATE OF HAWAI'I RESOLUTION NO. 291. 09 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAI'I DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A SECTION 5311 NON-URBANIZED FORMULA PROGRAM GRANT FOR THE HAWAI'I COUNTY MASS TRANSIT AGENCY WHEREAS, the State of Hawai'i Department of Transportation has authorized a Section 5311 Non-Urbanized Formula Program grant to the Hawai'i County Mass Transit Agency; and WHEREAS, this grant funding supplements those monies received under the Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) Grant; and WHEREAS, the JARC grant is intended to provide increased transportation service for working commuters and for those seeking employment; and WHEREAS, the funding provides for the operating costs to establish additional routes and frequency of bus service, which include additional weekday and weekend service; and WHEREAS, these funds provided by the State of Hawai'j Department of Transportation are derived from the Federal Transit Administration; and WHEREAS, Hawai'i Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in accordance with section 46 -7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the County of Hawai'i is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement and related documents with the State of Hawai'i Department of Transportation, to enable the County to provide additional transportation services, as mentioned in the Hawai'i County Mass Transit Agency's letter to the grantor, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as Exhibit "A ". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai`i shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency, and the Finance Department.
