Re: Capital Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance adding the Wailoa Flood Channel Dredging Project for
$200,000 into this fiscal year's Capital Budget. This project will dredge the lower reach of
the existing Wailoa Flood Control Channel to previously authorized depths. It addresses
public health and safety matters by removing accumulated sediment and stream-run
materials from the existing flood control channel to maintain the integrity of the drainage
channel and to re-establish the channel capacity. This appropriation is for the
design/survey phase of this project.

A. REQUEST:
An ordinance amending Ordinance 09-65, The Capital Budget, by adding an appropriation for
Wailoa Flood Channel Dredging in the amount of $200,000.00.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
This project is for dredging the lower reach of the existing Wailoa Flood Control
Channel to previously authorized depths to re-establish the channel capacity. The
$200,000 appropriation is needed for the design/survey portion.
