HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 094 Draft 01 1959 COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 94 WHEREAS the'Island of Hawaii is constantly losing population, while the Island of Oahu is becoming so over- crowded as to create almost insurmountable difficulties owing to its limited land area; and WHEREAS there is no immediate prospect of any industrial, or commercial development sufficient to overcome the injurious drift of population; and WHEREAS the immediate hope for the economic growth of the Island of Hawaii and particularly of the historic and charming City of Hilo rests in the development of the tourri.st -lousiness, which would be followed in turn by the growth of industry and commerce; and WHEREAS the Planning and Traffic Commission of..the County of Hawaii has called a meeting to establish as a part of the master plan for the city, to be recommended to-the Board of Supervisors of the County of Hawaii the,recommended Plan for the development of Waiakea Peninsula and the Harbor complex prepared under the direction and auspices of the Commissioner of Public Lands; and WHEREAS said Board of Supervisors intends to adopt said Plan when presented; and WHEREAS said Plan, if executed, would not only stay the attention of the population and resources of the City of Hilo, and the Island of Hawaii, but would greatly add to the attractions offered by all the Islands and stimulate the growth of Hilo and Hawaii; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Hawaii that the Legislature of the Territory Kee. Da_ of Hawaii be and it is hereby respectfully urged to enact Senate Joint Resolution 71 appropriating funds for the execution of the first portion of said Plan; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Legislature, if possible, include in said Joint Resolution a further appro- priation in the sum of fifty thousand dollars ($$0,000), or such other amount as it shall deem fit, to provide for engineering studies to implement the further portions of the plan so that when circumstances warrant such further portions may also be completed; and BE IT`FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii, the Hawaii Select.Committee and the Nays and Means Committees of said Senate, and to the Hawaii County and the Finance Committees of said House of Representatives.
