COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION N0. 146
WHEREAS, Armed Forces personnel utilizing the Pohakuloa
Training Area has been routing military tanks through Kamuela
over county paved and maintained roads; and
WHEREAS, such tank traffic has caused considerable
damage to the asphalt macadam surface of these roads leading.;:
into and through Kamuela, and continued use of these roads
by said tanks will lead to severe damages requiring major
repair or resurfacing work; and
WHEREAS, Parker Ranch has expressed its willingness
to permit the armed forces to re-route their tanksthrough
ranch lands and diverting such traffic away from paved
county roads from the Kawaihae-Kohala mountain road junction
to the saddle road junction as a means to alleviate or
eliminate the problem confronting the county government;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS in and for the County of Hawaii that the Base.
Camp Commander at Pohakuloa be and is hereby respectfully
requested to exercise the good powers of his office to
cooperate with the county government in this pressing
problem by eliminating tank movements through Kamuela and
re-routing such traffic over lands to be made available by
Parker Ranch.
