COUNTY OF HAWAII - STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. 217
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii has suffered severe
economic loss due to lack of employment opportunities and
as a result of which has also suffered a loss in population;
and
WHEREAS, tourism affords the greatest opportunity
to increase employment for its people; and
WHEREAS, the vast majority of tourists travel via
air; and
WHEREAS, in anticipation of the proposed jet runways
in Honolulu, Oahu, and Hilo, Island of Hawaii, State of
Hawaii, applications have been filed for air routes from
mainland cities to Honolulu as a terminal or intermediate
point, including one to Hilo as a terminal point; and
WHEREAS, during the peak flight seasons, being the
summer and winter months, air passengers have found it
difficult to obtain passage from Hawaii to the mainland
of the United States and vice versa, resulting in great
inconvenience and loss of time and money to air travellers;
and
WHEREAS, the Civil Aeronautics Board will hold hearings
in Honolulu, commencing on October 26, 1959, to determine,
among other things, whether additional air routes to Hawaii
should be granted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of
rA`~~'~' Supervisors of the County of Hawaii, State of Hawaii, that
the Civil Aeronautics Board be and it is hereby respectfully
urged to grant additional air routes to the cities in the

State of Hawaii from the mainland of the United States
and/or vice versa;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chairman or Acting
Chairman of said Board be and he is hereby requested to
attend said hearing as a public' witness to urge said
Board to grant such additional:air routes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County
of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to send certified
copies of this resolution to the President of the United
States, the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of Interior,
the two United States Senators and the United States
Representative from Hawaii, the Chairman and members of
the Civil Aeronautics Board, the Governor of Hawaii, the
members of the Senate and House of Representatives of the
Legislature of the State of Hawaii, and as many certified
copies as the Examiner conducting said hearings shall
require.
