COUNTY OF HAWAII - STATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. 222
/
WHEREAS, it has long been recognized and is increasingly
evident that the economic development of the County of Hawaii
can be developed most rapidly through increased tourist
travel, and from numerous surveys of potential industrial
developments that improved airline service will stimulate
tourist travel, new jobs and develop new industrial oppor-
tunities for people of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, we believe that such tourist travel can be
substantially encouraged through destination service to the
County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, upon a review of the Exhibits-in-Chief
submitted by the various applicants in the 'Trans-Pacific
Route Case, Civil Aeronautics Board Docket 7723 et aI, it
appears the need for additional service in the Pacific was

adequately demonstrated; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines is the only currently
certificated carrier proposing direct schedules to Hilo; is
the only carrier proposing direct schedules between Hilo and
both Los Angeles and San Francisco; is the only applicant
(other than the existing ~arrier, Pa~American) offering

economy class service between Haw~ii and the Orient; and

proposes that all its trans-Paoific flights be routed through

Hawaii; and

\v.HEREAS, Hawaiian Airlines appears to be the only
applicant proposing to maintain its general headquarters a~d
major maintenance facility in Hawaii thereby creating maximum
employment opportunities for the people of the State of
Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, the Examiner of the Civil Aeronautics Board
will hold hearings in Honolulu on October 26, 1959, in the
above numbered docket;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPER-
VISORS of the County of Hawaii, that the Civil Aeronautics
Board is hereby respectfully requested to grant additional
airline service in the Pacific area to those applicants, in
particular Hawaiian Airlines, who will provide destination
service to the County of Hawaii ~nd locate major maintenance
facilities within the State of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that duly certified copies of this
resolution be transmitted to the Chairman and members of the
Civil Aeronautics Board, the President of the United States,
the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Interior, the

Secretary of Commerce, the Governor of the State of Hawaii,
the heads of the foreign governments of the various countries
which these routes connect and Hawaiian Airlines" Limited.
