HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 488 Draft 01 1958 0 0 s COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII C RESOLUTION NO. 488 WHEREAS, on August 11 1958, an atomic explosion seen by the residents of the County of Hawaii was set off on Johnston Island, only 700 miles from Hawaii, without previous warning; and WHEREAS, such atomic explosions are known to be poisoning the atmosphere, to be extremely dangerous to the health and lives of the people now living and also to be seriously handicapping future generations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors in and for the County of Hawaii that the Honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States, be asked to take immediate steps to end this nuclear testing program in the Pacific Ocean. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Dwight D.
