Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 15, reports as follows:
Communication No. 15, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 1, 1998,
nominates Mr. Ma'ulili W. G. Dickson of Kamuela and Mr. Brian I. Nakashima to the Hawaii
County Tax Boazd of Review.
A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Dickson has been the Executive Director of the Waimea
YMCA since 1994. He is also active with the Moikeha Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Race
Association, Kokua Housing, and the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Mr. Dickson will replace
Floyd Miguel whose term will expire on December 31, 1998. A registered Democrat, he will
serve a term to end December 31, 2003.
A lifetime resident of Kona, Mr. Nakashima recently retired as the principal of Konawaena High
School and was previously with the Hawaii District Office and the Kealakehe Schools.
Mr. Nakashima will serve the balance of an unexpired term left by Mahina Maxey who resigned.
Of no political party affiliation, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2001.
Pursuant to Section 19-96, Hawaii County Code, there is created a Boazd of review for the county
which shall consist of five members...appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council as
provided by charter.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of Mr. Ma'ulili W. G. Dickson and
Mr. Brian I. Nakashima to the Hawaii County Tax Boazd of Review.
