Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 16, reports as follows:
Communication No. 16, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 4, 1998,
nominates Mr. Clazence Souza of Hamakua to the Hawaii County Civil Service Commission.
A lifetime resident of Hawaii, Mr. Souza has been retired since 1994. Prior to his retirement, he
was the Division Representative and Business Agent of the ILWU Local 142 and served in the
Industrial Relations Office of the Hamakua Sugaz Company. Mc Souza is also a member of the
Hamakua Housing Corporation, the Hamakua Medical Center, the Paauilo Community Athletic
Association, the Hamakua Task Force, and the Hawaii County Police Commission.
Mr. Souza will replace Bazbaza Dart whose term will expire on December 31, 1998. Of no
political party affiliation, Mr. Souza will serve a term to end December 31, 2003.
Pursuant to Article VII, Section 1-1.2, Hawaii County Chazter, the civil service commission shall
consist of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council in
the manner prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of Mr. Clazence Souza to the Hawaii
County Civil Service Comission.
