Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 42, reports as follows:
Communication No. 42, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 14, 1998,
nominates Ms. Diana B. Kahler of Hilo to the Hawaii County Civil Service Commission.
A 23-year resident of Hawaii, Ms. Kahler has served as Deputy Director of the Hawaii County
Economic Opportunity Council since 1988. She is also active with the Head Start Association of
Hawaii and the Naauao Neighborhood Watch Program. Ms. Kahler will replace Ronald
Okamura whose term will expire on December 31, 1998. A registered Democrat, Ms. Kahler
will serve a term to end December 31, 2003.
Pursuant to Article VII, Section 1-1.2, Hawaii County Charter, the civil service commission shall
consist of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council in
the manner prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Diana B.
Kahler to the Hawaii County Civil Service Commission.
