COUNTY OF hkWAII - TERRI IDRY OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. 529
WHEREAS, coffee is a major export product of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the price of coffee is declining and causing distress
to the coffee farmers in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, coffee is not included in the parity payment program of
the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, as amended; and
WHEREAS, the major Latin American coffee producers are working on
an international agreement to control the price of coffee and the
Hawaiian coffee producers will probably not be a party of this agreement,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WARD OF XPERVISURS in and
for the County of Hawaii, that the Economic Planning Coordinating
Authority make a study of the problem connected with the production and
marketing of coffee and make recommendations as to how to stabilize
the industry and assure a fair return to the producers and submit
these recommendations to the 1959 Legislature, the Delegate to Congress,
and the Coffee Farmers Associations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to
Mr. George Mason, Director of Economic Planning Coordinating Authority,
to Mr. Rdy Allen, Chairman of the Board of Economic Planning Coordinating
Authority, and to the Honorable William F. Quinn, Governor of the
Territory of Hawaii.
