Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 67 reports as follows:
Communication No. 67, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 22, 1998,
nominates the following individual to the 1999 Hawaii County Charter Commission.
Representing the district of Hamakua is Mr. George A. Martin. A lifetime resident of Hawaii,
Mr. Martin is a mechanic with Yamada & Sons, and a former employee of Hamakua Sugar
Company. A Democrat, Mr. Martin is a member of the North Hilo Community Association and
the State of Hawaii Hunter Education program.
Pursuant to Article XV, Section 15-3, Hawaii County Charter, the mayor with the confirmation
of the council, shall appoint a charter commission composed of eleven members to study and
review the operation of the government of the county under this charter. Commission members,
no more than a majority of whom shall belong to the same political party, shall be representative
of the various geographical areas of Puna, Ka'u, Kona, Kohala, Hamakua, and Hilo.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of George Martin to
the 1999 Hawaii County Charter Commission.
