COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. /
REQUESTING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE TERRITORY OF HAWAII
.TO PASS LEGISLATION MAKING THE TERRITORY RESPONSIBLE
FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL PUBLIC
SCHOOLS.
WHEREAS, under the existing laws of the Territory
of Hawaii the Department of Public Instruction is a
department of the Territorial government; and
WHEREAS, the teaching staff and the office personnel
of the Department of Public Instruction are compensated
by the Territory; and
WHEREAS, the responsibility for the construction
and maintenance of public school buildings is placed
upon the county government; and
WHEREAS, from ,the standpoint of economy and
efficiency it would be to the best interest of all to
place the administration of the public school buildings,
teaching staff and office personnel under one. governmental
unit,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of
Supervisors in and for the County of Hawaii that the
Honorable Senators and Representatives from the Island
of Hawaii to the Twenty-Ninth Legislature of the,Territory
of Hawaii, now assembled at Iolani Palace, Honolulu,
Oahu, be hereby respectfully requested to exercise the
good powers of their office to secure the passage of
legislation making the Territory assume the responsibility
of constructing and maintaining the public school buildings,
77 including the bond issues.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be
instructed and directed to forward a copy of this
resolution to each of the Honorable Senators and
Representatives from the County of Hawaii.
