Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 64-99, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 64-99, transmitted by Finance Director Harry Takahashi, via Communication
No. 201, dated March 12, 1999, changes the funding source of four positions under the
Community Policing Program.
Resolution No. 264-96 created four positions under the Community Policing Program with
funding provided by the U.S. Department of Justice through a contract with the Hawaii County
Police Department. Said resolution further specified that "if future funding of the Police
Officer II positions is not received from the federal grant, the County will either continue
funding or abolish these positions". After the federal funds have been expended, the County
wishes to continue to fund these positions.
Funds to cover these additional positions are available in their respective accounts.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 64-99
and recommends its adoption.
