SUBJECT: Peter Piper Sign Variance Resolution
Enclosed is a resolution requesting variance as required by chapter 3, section 3-22, Hawaii
County Code 1983 (2005 Edition as amended for signs by Peter J. Piper.
The applicant seeks County Council approval for two signs for Humpy's Big Island Alehouse for
installation at 75-5815 Ali`i Drive as reviewed and approved by the County of Hawaii
Department of Public Works and the Kailua Village Design Council, for the approved sign
applications (attached).

This letter is to inform you that the Kailua Village Design Commission, at its November 24, 2009
meeting, voted to recommend to the Public Works Director the approval of your sign application as
submitted with the following recommendations:
® Work with the Public Works, Building Division to avoid the variance process for
your sign permit application; and
® Recommend that the Building Division consider the second floor as the finished floor
level for purposes of interpreting Section 3-59(a)(4) of the sign code.
Prior to installing this sign, you must obtain an approved sign permit from Public Works Building
Division.
