Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 224, reports as follows:
Communication No. 224, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated March 30, 1999,
requests for confirmation the appointment of Mr. Edward Bumatay as Chief of the Hawaii
County Fire Department.
The Fire Department since October 1970 has employed Mr. Bumatay. He served from March
1989 to December 1990 and from July 1993 through December 1998 as Deputy Fire Chief. He
has been Acting Chief since December 31, 1998.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 4, Section 6-4.2, Hawaii County Charter, the fire chief shall be
appointed by the mayor, confirmed by the council and may be removed by the mayor.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Edward
Bumatay as Chief of the Hawaii County Fire Department.
