REQUESTING ADVANCEMENT OF FUNDS FOR THE PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES IN THE COUNTY OF HAWAII AS PER ACT 273, SESSION LAWS OF HAWAII 1955• WHEREAS, by Section 6 (a) of Act 273, Session Laws of Hawaii 1955, the legislature of the Territory of Hawaii appropriated the sum of Four Million Dollars ($4,000,000.00) for the purpose•of acquiring sites for new schools and additions to existing sites and construction of public school buildings and facilities in the County of Hawaii for the bienniums 1956 and 1957, and 1958 and 1959; and WHEREAS, Section 6 (b) of said act further provides that the sum shall be expended by the board of supervisors of the County of Hawaii in accordance with the priority as recommended by the department of public instruction; and WHEREAS, the school department with the assistance of the county public works department and with the approval of the superintendent of public instruction has prepared and submitted a priority list of school construction projects for the island of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, top priority has been assigned to the following projects and their completion is of the utmost urgency to care for increased enrollment and to provide needed facilities; 6.Ly,.r /-~~.'...a°4`n....T v'tfc~ ..rte' . l j d aL' _ z PRIORITY RATING SCHOOL COST ESTIMATE 1 Konawaena High & Elementary School $289,000.00 (Elementary Division) 2 Konawae.na High & Elementary School 87,800.00 (Secondary Division) (planning) 3 New Waiakea Intermediate 50,460.00 (planning) 4 Ainako 205,700.00 5 Laupahoehoe High & Elementary 7,875.00 (p.la.nning) TOTAL $640,835.00 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors in and for the County of Hawaii that the Honorable Paul J. Thurston, Chairman of the Committee on Priorities and Director of the Bureau of the Budget, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Kam Tai Lee, Treasurer, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Michael Miyake, Comptroller, Territory of Hawaii; and the Honorable William M. Wachter, Superintendent of Public Works, Territory of Hawaii, be and are hereby respectfully requested to exercise the good powers of their offices to make the sum of %'40,835.00 available for the immediate construction of the above listed school projects in the County of Hawaii in accordance with Section 6 (a) of Act 273 of the Session Laws of Hawaii 1955. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Paul J. Thurston, Chairman of the Committee on Priorities and Director of the Bureau of the Budget, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Kam Tai Lee, Treasurer, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Michael Miyake, Comptroller, Territory of Hawaii; and to R.es.
