Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 49, reports as follows:
Bill No. 49, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 58-99 by Finance Director Harry Takahashi,
via Communication No. 186, dated February 23, 1999, amends Ordinance No. 98-49, as
amended, the Operating Budget ending June 30, 1999. The amendment is as follows:

3302.25 Federal Grants -Econ Dev Tech Assist General $45,000
To:
010-161-5162.96-115 Econ Dev Tech Assist-Fed General $45,000
The Department of Research and Development has received an award of $45,000 for
implementing Phase 2 of the Ka`u Economic Development Plan. The Economic Development
Administration had previously funded a study following the closing of Ka`u Sugar. It now
wishes to implement the recommendations of Decisions Analysts Hawaii, Inc.
Originally heard on March 16, 1999, this measure was deferred until today's meeting pending
further information.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 49 and
recommends it pass first reading.
