COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO. vz~
REQUESTING ADVANCEMENT OF $504,600 FOR THE PLANNING AND
CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW WAIAKEA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, by Section 6 (a) of Act 273, Session Laws of
Hawaii, 1955, the legislature of the Territory of Hawaii
appropriated the sums of Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000)
and Two Million Dollars ($2,000,000) fox the purpose of
acquiring sites for new schools and additions to existing
sites and construction of public school buildings and
facilities in the County of Hawaii for the school years
1956 and 1957, and 1958 and 1959, respectively, and
WHEREAS, the Depaxtment of Public Instruction has
placed a high priority on the construction of a new Waiakea
Intermediate School to supplant the grossly inadequate
facilities of the present campus and classrooms, and
WHEREAS, the inadequacies of the makeshift physical
facilities of the Waiakeakai intermediate division of the
Waiakeakai Elementary and Intermediate School has resulted
in an insufferable situation directly reflected by the
attitude of students, teachexs,and the community, and
WHEREAS, the steadily increasing school enrollment
necessitates an expansion of facilities to relieve the load
at Hilo Intermediate School and to better serve the population
area of this poxtion of the city of Hilo.
NOVI, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors in
and for the County of Hawaii that the Honorable Paul J. Thurston,

Chairman of the Committee on Priorities and Director of the
Bureau of the Budget, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Kam Tai
Lee, Treasurer, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Michael Miyake,
Comptroller, Territory of Hawaii.; and the Honorable William
M. Wachter, Supexintendent.of Public Works, Territory of
Hawaii, be and are hereby respectfully requested to exercise
the good powers of their offices to make the sum of $504,600
available for the immediate construction of a new Waiakea
Intermediate School in accordance with Section 6 (a) of Act
273 of the Session Laws of Hawaii 1955.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy
of this resolution to the Honorable Paul J. Thurston, Chairman,
of the Committee on Priorities and Director of the Bureau of
the Budget, Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Kam Tai Lee, Treasurer,
Territory of Hawaii; Honorable Michael Miyake, Comptroller,
Territory of Hawaii; and to the Honorable William M. Wachter,
Superintendent of Public Works, Territory of Hawaii.
