COUNTY OF HAWAII - TERRITORY OF HAWAII

WHEREAS, the Twenty-Ninth Legislature of the Territory
of Hawaii did enact Act 141, Session Laws of Hawaii 1957,
providing salary adjustments for officers and employees
of the counties of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai retroactive
to March 16, 1956; and
WHEREAS, the conference of finance committee
chairmen from the counties of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai
convening at Lihue, county of Kauai, Territory of Hawaii,
adopted a resolution, dated the 8th day of November,
1957, advising and requesting the tri-county boards of
supervisors to appropriate any and all surplus anticipated
for the current fiscal period for the purpose of
discharging all or any portion of the indebtedness to
the employees accruing upon the completion of the
repricing survey; and
VIJHEREAS,. the present finances of the county of
Hawaii do not permit the immediate payment in full of the
legal obligation under the aforementioned Act to make
retroactive payments on salary adjustments effective
under the repricing provisions of Act 274, Session Laws
of Hawaii 1955; and
WHEREAS, it is the earnest desire of the Board
of Supervisors of the County of Hawaii to discharge
its obligation to its employees without jeopardizing \
future work opportunities of said employees and without
sacrificing or withholding necessary public improvements
and services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS in and for the' County of Hawaii that in the
event funds are insufficient to duly discharge the
obligation aforesaid, a conference of employee-represen-
tatives and members of the legislature be called to
find possible solutions in discharging said obligation,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this
resolution be forwarded to the Honorable William Quinn,
Governor of the Territory of Hawaii, and to the Honorable
Michael Miyake, Comptroller of the Territory of Hawaii.
