Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have nominated the following individuals to the
County of Hawaii Kailua Village Design Commission:
it Council District 7 — Shane Kitchens is a 10 -year resident of Hawai'i. Since 2004, he is
a self - employed computer residential designer with Premier Pacific Design Group.
Mr. Kitchens is a member of the Keauhou Outreach Committee, Bayview Estates
Design Review Committee, and the Board of Directors of the Hualalai Academy.
Mr. Kitchens states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will
succeed Fritz Harris - Glade, and will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2012.
Council District 8 — Nancy E. Burns is a 20 -year resident of Hawai'i. She is a
self - employed civil engineer. She was the past President of the Hawai'i Society of
Professional Engineers. Ms. Burns states that she is not affiliated with any political
party. If confirmed, she will succeed Stephen J. Herbert, serve the remainder portion of
a term ending December 31, 2010, and will serve a subsequent term to expire on
December 31, 2013.
Council District 7 — Ann Peterson is a 15 -year resident of Hawai'i. She wrote the
"Historical Kailua Village Walking Map" which won the Historic Hawai'i Foundation's
Presentation Award. Ms. Peterson was the Development Director at the Hualalai
Academy from 2007 to 2008, and the Kona Historical Society from 1997 to 2007. She
presently serves as a member of the Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation and the Board
of Friends of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Ms. Peterson states that she is not •
affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will succeed Fanny Au Hoy and will
serve a term to expire on December 31, 2011. - 2

Council District 8 — Eugene Power is a 46 -year resident of Hawai'i. He is the owner of
Gene T. Power & Associates. His community services include membership with the
Grace Community Church and the Ironman Triathlon Organization. Mr. Power states
that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, he will succeed Gregory G. Ogin, and will serve a
term to expire on December 31, 2012.
Council District 8 - Stephen J. Herbert is a 50+ year resident of Hawaii, and is a
self - employed civil engineer. He is a past president of the Hawaii Society of
Professional Engineers, and has been active with the St. Michael's Church construction
group. Mr. Herbert has continued to serve on the design commission well past the date
of his term's expiration in 2007. Mr. Herbert says he is not affiliated with any political
party. If confirmed, he will succeed David M. Ross, and will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2011.
