Re: Comm. No. 697 /Res. 299 -10
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 299 -10, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 299 -10, transmitted by Director of Finance Nancy Crawford, via Communication
No. 697, dated February 3, 2010, authorizes the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and of
more than one fiscal year for a multi -year lease for a copy machine.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney wishes to enter into a five -year lease contract for a copy
machine for the Kona Office. Their current copier requires frequent service calls and cannot
handle the large volume of covering two Circuit Courts, one District Court and one Family
Court. It has been determined to be more cost effective to lease rather than purchase a
multifunctional copier that includes advanced technology and will improve the overall efficiency
of the office. The estimated annual cost for this copier is $6,000.
Pursuant to Section 10 -11, Hawaii County Charter, any contract, lease or other obligation
requiring payment of funds from the appropriations of a later fiscal year must be approved by
resolution.
Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney Jay Kimura was present to answer any questions.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 299 -10,
and recommends its adoption.
