RESOLUTION NO. 317".9 8
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE GRANT OF A SUBLEASE TO KAI'OPUA
, CANOE CLUB FOR TH'E PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING AND USING CANOE
STORAGE FACILITIES ON 5.7 ACRES OF LAND LOCATED AT KAILUA PARK.
WHEREAS, pursuant to General Lease No. S-5271, dated July 6, 1994, the
County of Hawaii is the lessee of 5.7 acres of land located at Kailua Park; and
WHEREAS, Kai'Opua Canoe Club, a non-profit corporation of the State of'
Hawaii, is the "kahu" or leader of the subject premises which shall, in a spirit of
cooperation and inclusion, provide several individual canoe clubs canoe storage facilities
to safeguard their canoes from vandalism and theft; and .
WHEREAS, the County through its Department of Parks and Recreation, desires
to give the necessary consent to permit Kai'Opua and other Kona area canoe clubs to
construct and use canoe storage facilities on property in which the County has a leasehold .
interest; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 19, Section 2-120 (a)(2) of the Hawaii County
Code, provides that the. County Council may, by resolution approved by a majority of its

members, direct the finance directorto negotiate the disposition of real property by
leasing it to non-profit organizations on such terms and conditions as deemed proper.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOL VED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that inacc~rdance with Chapter 2, Article 19,
Section 2-120( a)(2), Hawaii County Code, the director of finance is authorized to grant a
sublease to Kai'Opua Canoe Clubto construct and use canoe storage facilities located at
Kailua Park.
