RESOLUTION CREATING DEPUTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY FOR THE
OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY.
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney has received a grant
ftom the United States of America through the Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs, providing for salaries and wages as well as fringe benefi.ts for a
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney; and
WHEREAS, early identification of the misdemeanor committals and
felony sexual assault and domestic violence cases involving adult women victims
handled by one deputy attorney until disposition will expedite prosecution; and
WHEREAS, the victim's comfort level and confidence inthe deputy will
be established, and therefore increase the likelihood of a successful prosecution;
and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the regular salariesand wages account
through the Violence AgainstWomen~ a federally-funded program; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states
that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...for which appropriations
have been made by the counciL.".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAW All that one (1) Deputy Prosecuting Attorney position be
created in the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds are available in the Regular
Salaries & Wages account of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Violence
Against Women, account 010-271-5271.54-011.
,BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted
to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Departments of Finance and
Civil Service.
