To whom it may concern,
My name is Chiaki Sasaki.
I am writing this email in regards to the issue of Hawaii County Band being laid off from July
Maybe things like music and arts are easier to cut the budgets off of since you cannot really
see the outcomes clearly, but I believe that by laying those off, you are definitely decreasing the
quality of people's lives and Hawaii's future.
I strongly believe that music provides something very important to all people in Hawaii,
including children who will be supporting and leading our future.

I have been to County band concerts so many times and every time I was there, I saw people enjoying
A lot of people dance, sing, and move with the band. The atmosphere surrounding the band and the
audiences are always so warm.
Have you been to any of the concerts ??
By laying the band off, you are not only taking the joys away from the players but also taking
the laxurious time away from the citizens as well.

As I stated above, music may not have the clear outcome. But I think music is what makes our lives rich,
with good quality, and is positively contributing to making Hawaii a better place to live.
I was born in Japan and I was twelve years old when I moved to Hawaii. I was the first student in my middle school
who cannot speak any English at all. There was not any ESL or special classes provided back then so I had no
choice
but to join the regular class and sit there without knowing anything. First few years were extremely hard for me, but
what supported me throughout the years was the music. I enrolled in Ukulele band during my middle school years
and that class became the only thing I could do as well as the other students. During my high school and my
college years, I was playing for the concert and marching band and those experiences helped me make more
friends,
move foward, and enjoy my life in Hawaii.
I cannot imagine my life without music now, and I am very sure that music affected me strongly and positively
throughout
all these years.
Therefore, I think County Band should definiltey not be laid off completely. Please do not take the music away
from the
players and the audiences. I believe there are many more people who will have the same opinion as I do. Please
rethink your decision and let the band members and people continue enjoying the music as they always have.
