I am a student at Indiana University in Music Education and heard about the rich history and tradition of this ensemble from a friend of mine here who played in the group. As a music educator, I am constantly looking for ways to show my students that they can continue to be lovers and supporters of music even after they leave public school. The Hawai'i County Band is a shining example of a group of musicians continuing their dedication and love of music in a way that benefits the community. The ensemble and members are no doubt a credit to Hawaii and its rich culture. Musicians are well aware that music programs and music education are in danger of losing funding and support in hard economic times. Please consider, aren't there other alternatives to cutting the program in its entirety? Please make the choice to preserve this group that has provided musical education and experiences to players for over 100 years. Your efforts will be remembered and revered by the community. Thank you, Emily Thompson Master of Music Education Indiana University 3/2/2010 Comm. No.1"t ( Ltd Ref. To: Ref. Dote MAR22 no
