The Hawaii County Band is an integral part of the community and culture on the Big Island and the rest of the
State. Fit it in to the budget and make it work!
I am a previous resident of Hawaii County. I grew up in Hilo and was involved in various performing arts
organizations during my time there It has come to my attention that the Hawaii County Band is losing its funding.
This is simply unacceptable. I am extremely concerned about this issue and am disappointed in the actions of the
council. How is it that a program with such a high cultural value and an operating cost that is only one percent of
Hawaii County's budget be cut? The only acceptable solution is to reverse the council's decision, find the money
and refund the Hawaii County Band.
