SUBJECT: EXTEND SUNSET DATE FOR THE HALEKI'I STREET EXTENSION TO
SEPTEMBER 4, 2010
The Department of Public Works requests to waive this subject from the Committee on Public
Works & Intergovernmental Relations, and present it on February 3 to the Hawaii County
Council.
We will ask the Hawaii County Council to approve extending the closure of the Haleki'i Street
extension to September 4, 2010, approve amendments to Ordinance No. 08 -64, and adopt the
Resolution authorizing the extension. Public use of the Haleki'i Street extension ends March 4,
2010 unless amended.
The northern section of the Mamalahoa Highway Bypass connects to the 4,000 -foot long
Haleki'i Street extension and is owned by 1250 Oceanside Partners. Under a grant of easement
with the County of Hawaii, it has been open to one -way southbound travel to the public on a
limited use since March 10, 2009. The Mamalahoa Highway Bypass is open between the hours
of 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.

and South Bona, Island, County and State of Flawai'i.
Bill No. 201 : A Bill Amending Ordinance No. 08 -6d, as Amended by Ordinance No 09 -1=
and Ordinance No. 09 -102, relating to Extending Public Use of the I-laleki`i Street Extension.
Pursuant to Section 21g) of Rule d of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawaii. this
written request is submitted with my approval that the above - referenced matter be waned from the Public
Works and Intergovernmental Relations Committee to the full Council for immediate action In
reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. I lowever, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Public Works and
Intergovernmental Relations Committee for placement on its futaur agenda.
