ATTN: FOR ORAL TESTIMONY, March 22, 2010, Hawai'i County Council
Hearing, 5:OOp.m.
Dear Honorable Members of the Hawaii County Council,
The Parks & Recreation Vision Statement states: "Service is our Game,
Satisfaction is our Aim." If this is true, then I strongly urge you to fully fund
the Hawaii County Band. If not, there will be many UNsatisfied people out
there. People who listen to our monthly concerts. People who pay their
respects to veterans who have served our country. People who clap their
hands and tap their feet as we march by in parade. Over the past 127 years,
the Hawaii County Band has provided music for generations of Big Islanders.
It has always served and has satisfied thousands of people.
The Parks & Recreation Mission Statement states: "To provide a wide array
of services for the public with Excellence, Integrity and Aloha." If the band is
not funded, then this Mission Statement would be false, as it would no longer
provide a wide array of services, since music would be totally cut out of the
budget. Rather, it would be a narrower array of services, UNservicing one
entire sector of the population.
Another item I found on the web page says that the County Band "provides
music for special functions and concert for public enjoyment throughout the
County." If the band goes unfunded, who will provide this service?
I am a proud member of the Hawaii County Band and this great island. As a
registered voter, I strongly urge you to fund the Hawaii County Band.
Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
Sincerely,
Andrew 0. Springer
