Subject: Please save the Hawaii County Band
Dear Mr. Yoshimoto:
I believe in the arts is an essential element in any community. In this case music. I am writing to ask
that you seriously consider removing the funding of the Hawaii County Band as one of the Mayor's
budget cuts for the upcoming fiscal year.
The band has been in existence since 1883 and has served the community extremely well. They've
performed at any and all community events that I can remember as I was born and raised in Hilo. Music
truly feeds souls and stirs emotions that nothing or no one can as I'm sure you experience in your daily
life. I believe it would be a crime for the band to fall victim to budget cuts. Especially since the funding
is so little. I was actually quite shocked to learn what an insignificant amount of money the band needs
to survive.
Once again, please re- consider robbing the community of a music program that has survived 127 years!
The Band is like a pillar of the community. Getting rid of a pillar (the arts /music) is not a solution to a
problem. Please save the Hawaii County Band from extinction!
Respectfully yours,
Sandra E. Robbins
