HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 325 Draft 01 2008-2010COUNTY OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 325 10 STATE OF HAWAII A RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE MAY 1, 2010, AS LAW DAY AND MAY 2 -8, 2010, AS LAW WEEK IN THE COUNTY OF HAWAII AND TO COMMEMORATE THE ROLE OF LAW IN OUR LIVES. WHEREAS, in 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1, 1958, to be Law Day in the United States of America; and WHEREAS, since 1958, a Presidential Proclamation has been issued every year recognizing May 1 as Law Day; and WHEREAS, on April 7, 1961, Law Day was codified by Public Law 87 -20, as amended; and WHEREAS, according to 36 U.S.C. § 113, Law Day is a special day of celebration by the people of the United States in appreciation of their liberties and the reaffirmation of their loyalty to the United States and of their rededication to the ideals of equality and justice under law in their relations with each other and with other countries and for the cultivation of the respect for law that is so vital to the democratic way of life; and WHEREAS, this year marks the fifty- second year since the first Presidential Proclamation of May 1 as Law Day and the forty -ninth year since the enactment of Law Day by Public Law 87 -20; and WHEREAS, the Hawai`i State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division, the West Hawai'i Bar Association, and the Hawai`i County Bar Association are committed to honoring the traditions of Law Day by planning a week of law- related events known as "Law Week "; and WHEREAS, the Hawai`i State Bar Association will be celebrating Law Week from May 2 -8, 2010; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it hereby recognizes Saturday, May 1, 2010, as Law Day in the County of Hawai`i and calls upon all citizens, schools, businesses, clubs, and the news media to commemorate the role of law in our lives. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council hereby recognizes May 2 -8, 2010, as Law Week in the County of Hawai`i. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Hawai'i State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division, the West Hawai`i Bar Association, the Hawai`i County Bar Association, the Office of the Corporation Counsel, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, and the Honorable Mayor William P.
