Naeole, Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi, Member Dominic Yagong, Member J Yoshimoto, Member Pursuant to HRS 92 -7, notice is hereby given that the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations will be holding a site visit to the Waiakea Forest Reserve, to land managed by the Division of Forestry and Wildlife, to observe areas of the native Hawaiian forest with and without the strawberry guava trees. Traveling from Hilo, turn right at the entrance to the Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo on Kulani Road (aka Stainback Highway). Proceed approximately 11.9 miles above the zoo entrance to a junction of an unpaved road known as "R" Road (a small "R" sign is posted on the north side of Stainback Highway at this location). The visit will then continue down Stainback Highway to "C" Road, which is 3.7 miles above the zoo junction and still within the Waiakea Forest Reserve. Jon Giffin from the Nature Conservancy, John Price from the United States Geological Survey and a representative from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Forestry Division, will be present to lead the visit and present their findings. Both areas are open to the public and accessible for passenger vehicles, but the visit will require walking along a potentially wet forest trail. Hiking shoes and rain gear are recommended. Members of the public who wish to attend will be responsible for their own transportation. Testimony from the public will be accommodated.
