Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication 737 and Resolution 310 -10, reports as follows:
Resolution 310 -10, transmitted via Communication No. 737 from Council Member
Kelly Greenwell, dated March 4, 2010, to further notify the Hawai`i State Department of
Transportation about the Kohanaiki Park intersection safety hazards.
There were no public testifiers.
Council Member Kelly Greenwell stated the Council had already sent a nearly identical
Resolution 241 -09 to the State Department of Transportation in October 2009, and that he is
frustrated by lack of response.
Council Member Pete Hoffmann agreed this intersection is a serious hazard. Mr. Hoffmann
questioned the broad inconsistency of the resolution title versus the closing "Be It Resolved"
statement. He further requested the Mayoral Administration and the Kona Transportation Safety
Committee get involved in addressing this problem with the State Department of Transportation.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Resolution 310 -10, and recommends its adoption.
