Box 568 Mountain View, HI 96771 Re: Please reconsider cutting the county band from budget Aloha mai kakou, For 127 years, the Hawaii County Band has provided this island's citizens with the gift of music. It has nurtured and inspired countless musicians in the process, and has played a critical role in many of our community events. The music and ambience created by this talented group of musicians, is immeasurable and second to none. Imagine if you will, the absence of our beloved county band at our local parades. No music at cultural events and public functions, such as the Hawaii Community College spring commencement ceremony. No music to honor of our veterans and student and community champions and heroes. Recorded music is a poor substitute and would do little to inspire future generations of musicians and music lovers. The thought that we will no longer have this unique service available in our county is truly an inconceivable one. If the vision statement of the department in which the band falls under is true to its word - Service is our Game, Satisfaction is our Aim, then our mayor and council representatives must do more by looking into alternative ways of saving this treasure. The Mission Statement clearly says that its goal is: To Provide a wide array of services for the public with Excellence, Integrity and Aloha. Our Hawaii County Band has met this charge for the past 127 years. Plato said - "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good and just and beautiful." I urge you to please do all that you can to ensure that the Hawaii County Band, our band, be around for the enjoyment of generations to come. Mahalo nui loa for your kind consideration, E.
