I've enjoyed a wonderful career on stage and in the recording_studio in both the classical and jazz worlds. The Hawaii County Band welcomed me into the Hilo community with open arms when I moved here in '02 and I practically had to fasten my seat belt to keep up with the velocity and power of these terrific players. Our director, Paul Arceo, maintains the highest professional standards of musical excellence and conduct. He is a terrific conductor and one of the finest trumpet players I've ever heard and had the pleasure of performing with. The Hawaii County Band is a truly professional ensemble and the only venue that can nurture our local aspiring, young musicians with the training to succeed in mainland competition. At this time we have nine high school members playing with us and our most recent "grads" are currently attending Harvard, Indiana University School Of Music and University of Hawaii at Manoa. Paul Arceo is an ideal example of a talented young musician who came up through the ranks of the Hawaii County Band, went off to college for his degree in music education and brought his expertise home to the Big Island. When Harry Kim was mayor he attended many of our concerts every year and always looked upon us with pride at every ceremony and parade. It was his wish to make the County Band members Civil Service employees to preserve our heritage. You have the power to save this historic treasure by cutting a little from every department rather than flushing the whole band. If you came to one of our concerts, you would see children dancing, people smiling or even shedding a tear, and you would frequently hear music from bygone Hawaiian times that would allow you to magically touch the past. Please listen to the residents of the Big Island and more than 9,000 petitioners from all around the world who are telling you to preserve the Hawaii County Band. Yours, Susanella Noble, Bachelor Music Education, Master Of Arts, Musician V: Principal Flute Hawaii County Band Comm too 7 (I • I lS Ref. To ft (a i.ni Ref. [kale MAR 22 2UUI
