COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
Re: Comm. No. 726
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 726, reports as follows:
Communication No. 726, transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated February 22, 2010, nominates
Ms. Wilma Matsumura of Council District 2 to serve on the Hawai`i County Public Access,
Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission.
A 45 -year resident of Hawai`i, Ms. Wilma Matsumura retired in 2004 as a librarian with the
Hawai`i State Public Library. Ms. Matsumura states that she is not affiliated with any political
party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2015.
Deputy Corporation Counsel Craig Masuda and several Council Members spoke in support of
Ms. Matsumura's appointment and thanked her for volunteering her time.
Council Member Onishi advised Ms. Matsumura that she need not appear before the full Council
for confirmation.
Pursuant to Chapter 2, Section 2 -215, Hawai`i County Code, there shall be a Public Access,
Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission appointed by the Mayor with the
approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with Mayor Kenoi's nomination and recommends the
confirmation of the appointment of recommends the confirmation of Ms. Wilma Matsumura to
the Hawaii County Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation
Commission.
