COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
Re: Comm. No. 724
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 724, reports as follows:
Communication No. 724, transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated February 23, 2010, nominates
Ms. Florence Ikeda of Council District 2 to serve on the County of Hawai`i Pension Board.
A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Ms. Florence Ikeda retired in 2005 as a School Administrative
Services Assistant from the State of Hawai`i Department of Education. A democrat, she will
serve a term to expire on December 31, 2015.
Council Member Donald Ikeda recused himself because he is the husband of the appointee.
Deputy Corporation Counsel Craig Masuda explained that the Pension Board administers the
pension for only pre -ERS band members.
Council Member Onishi advised Ms. Ikeda that she need not appear before the full Council for
confirmation.
Pursuant to Article VI, Section 6 -64, Hawai`i County Charter, there shall be a Pension Board
appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with Mayor Kenoi's nomination and recommends the
confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Florence Ikeda to the County of Hawai`i Pension Board.
