Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS DATE: March 16, 2010 PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa 78 -128 Ehukai Street Kailua -Kona, Hawai`i 96740 Re: Comm. No. 736 /Res. 309 -10 Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication 736 and Resolution 309 -10, reports as follows: Resolution 309 -10, transmitted via Communication No. 736 from Council Member Brenda Ford, dated March 4, 2010, urges Hawai`i State Legislators to oppose any proposed legislation legalizing gambling in the State of Hawaii. There were no public testifiers. Council Member Brenda Ford stated she had been approached by the League of Women Voters and other organizations to draft this resolution. She also stated we, as a County, must take a stand to let the State and other counties know we cannot afford to legalize gambling. Council Member Dennis Onishi wished to emphasize this resolution includes language that opposes any proposed legislation for any and all forms of gambling.
