Re: Comm. No. 736 /Res. 309 -10
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication 736 and Resolution 309 -10, reports as follows:
Resolution 309 -10, transmitted via Communication No. 736 from Council Member Brenda Ford,
dated March 4, 2010, urges Hawai`i State Legislators to oppose any proposed legislation
legalizing gambling in the State of Hawaii.
There were no public testifiers.
Council Member Brenda Ford stated she had been approached by the League of Women Voters
and other organizations to draft this resolution. She also stated we, as a County, must take a
stand to let the State and other counties know we cannot afford to legalize gambling.
Council Member Dennis Onishi wished to emphasize this resolution includes language that
opposes any proposed legislation for any and all forms of gambling.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Resolution 309 -10, and recommends its adoption.
