Subject: Resolution Authorizing the Transfer of Transitional Housing Units from Kawaihae to
Council District Five
Please find attached a resolution that authorizes the Office of Housing and Community Development
to transfer 24 housing units from the Kawaihae Transitional Housing Program to Council District Five.
The Kawaihae Transitional Housing Program, as operated by Catholic Charities of Hawai`i, will no
longer be operating in the near future. The housing units currently utilized by this housing program are
not currently dedicated for any particular use.
The resolution also provides that the housing units, once moved to Council District Five, will be
utilized as transitional housing to be managed by an entity to be selected via a Request for Proposals,
to be advertised for by the County. The intended location of the transitional housing units is on County
land near or adjacent to the community center in Pahoa.
Please place this resolution on the appropriate committee agenda for the meetings scheduled for
May 4, 2010.
