Serving the Interests of the People of our Island Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer EMC -17 UNFINISHED BUSINESS Comm. 663: (Bill 193) ADJOURNMENT Page 2 February 2, 2010 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14, HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED) BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO PLASTIC BAG REDUCTION (requires the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to administer a program to reduce plastic bags to be in effect on January 1, 2011. Also requires 1) DEM to adopt administrative rules pursuant to HRS Chapter 91 within 180 days of the effective date of the ordinance; 2) that businesses shall not provide plastic bags to their customers; 3) Police Officers may issue citations; and 4) provides for fines of $100 to $500} From Council Member Pete Hoffman, dated December 18, 2009, transmitting the above bill and its enclosures. Postponed: January 5, 2010 (Note: There is a pending motion made by Mr. Hoffmann and duly seconded by Ms. Ford to close file on Comm. 663 and recommend passage of Bill 193 on first reading.)
