Regarding the legistation to be discussed April 6, 2010, I would like to provide my thoughts on this
matter. My husband, Kurt Corbin, and I are residents of Laupahoehoe living on a section of Kihalani
Homestead Road that is not maintained by the county. We have done what we can to help maintain this
gravel section of the road which fronts our driveway. Especially after heavy rains, my husband has used
our small tractor to push gravel back into the gullies and potholes caused by erosion.
A two mile section of Kihalani Homestead Road is well maintained by the County but beyond this it
turns into a poorly maintained gravel road that curves right and connects to Spencer Road (another well
maintained County road).
The gravel section of the road is used by the general public because the connection between Spencer and
Kihalani Homestead Rd makes for a much more direct route than driving downhill approximately 5 -8
miles to the highway just to get from one road to the other. The gravel connecting section of the road is
less that a quarter mile.
I do not know if this section of road is covered in the listings of "Roads in Limbo ". But as a landowner,
my husband and I would be more than willing to help maintain this road if resources were provided by
the County. This would make this road safer and easier to drive for our neighbors and ourselves.
I am afraid my email will arrive after the 12 noon deadline to be distrubed at the Council Hearing but I
hope it will be considered for going discussions.
