SUBJECT: An Alternative Amendment to Charter Amendment 17 (CA -17) to Clarify and
Add Criteria
The attached resolution provides an alternative amendment to 2009 -2010 Charter Commission
proposal CA -17, pursuant to Hawai`i Revised Statutes, section 50 -8.
Proposed CA -17 amends article III, section 3 -17 of the Hawai`i County Charter, and relates to
what is currently titled the "County Reapportionment Commission."
Specifically, the alternative amendment amends language provided by subsection (g), paragraphs
(1), (2), and (4), and also adds new paragraphs (5) through (9). Subsection (g) provides the
criteria for establishing the boundaries of council districts.
Please place this resolution on the agenda for the May 5, 2010, meeting of the council.
