I have owned my house at 73 -4663 Old Government Road in Kailua -Kona for over 12 years now
and have tried desperately to work with 3 different administrations to resolve road maintenance.
My hours of effort have yet to even get Old Government Road listed as a road in limbo ( "ran out of
survey funds before they could get to it " - -I was told by Public Works)! So to say this issue has
been a political football is an understatement.
In the mid 2000's I almost got a county roads supervisor to cut some of the trees back from the
road, but he retired before it could be done....
5 homes on Old Government Road (Recently renamed Old Mauka Government Road) bear the
entire cost and effort to maintain the 1/4 mile of road. It is our sole access to our homes. 9 other
homes use the road as a frequent secondary access.
Please pass this legislation so we can get some relief, as the burden of upkeep is severe. I thank
you for your efforts and hope that some day we can see some resolution to this mess.
