Subject: Testimony in support of Council Resolution 308-10/concerning aquarium collecting
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the County Council for taking up this important resolution. I am
strongly in favor of resolution 308 -10, urging the DLNR to adopt rules presented by the West Hawaii Fisheries
Council regarding tropical fish collection.
The WHFC has been an on- the -spot, community- based, problem - solving body for the DLNR now for more than
10 years. A great deal of time, effort and love has gone into every single element of proposals which pass the
WHFC and are handed on to DLNR as advisories. However, if the DLNR does nothing with those proposals, the
time and effort have been wasted, as well as removing any effectualness for the body as a whole.
I greatly appreciate the County Council of the Island of Hawaii standing up for those of us trying to do good things
for our environment and our local community. Thank you in advance for passing this resolution.
