I would like to express my support of Resolution 308 10, which is proposing some
progressive regulations for the aquarium fish trade in Hawaii, including the
implementation of adaptive management of the Fish Replenishment Areas (allowing a reef
area at Pebble Beach in South Kona to be closed to aquarium collecting while opening a
similarly -sized area at Keauhou for limited collecting by lottery), creating a tropical
fish white list, and proposing new limited entry regulations. It is my understanding that
these measures have been in the process of development for a long time, and that they have
the full support of the West Hawaii Fisheries Council, ensuring that they represent the
outcome of an inclusive and balanced multi- stakeholdet process. West Hawaii has led the
way for the rest of the state in terms of its community -based conservation and policy -
making accomplishments, and I hope it can continue to do so by passing this resolution.
